The Bridport Prize
The Bridport Prize is an annual international creative writing competition for poetry, short stories and flash fiction. The closing date for entries which may either be sent online or by post is 31st May. The Bridport Prize is one of the top prizes of its kind in terms of both prestige and prize money. It has been the first step in the careers of many established poets and novelists. The prize money now totals £15325. |

The Sydney Youth Writing Competition
Enter your story, poem, play, script or free choice and you could win great prizes such as short courses at NIDA and The Writing Workshop, ATYP, books from Scholastic and Cambridge University Press, book vouchers from Ariel Books, kites from Kite Magic, and more. Teachers can win prizes too for inspiring their students and for all their hard work in getting entries in on time. (Prizes include tickets to Opera Australia, Griffin Theatre, Riverside Parramatta, and more).
This year the signature words are key, face and cloud. Your entry must include at least one of the signature words but does not have to be about these words. You can use the words in any way. For example they can be used as a noun (singular or plural), an adjective or a verb (in any tense). |

The Seven Deadly Sins Short Fiction Award 2012
Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. Surely all good short stories must contain one of these elements? Here's your chance to showcase your one or more of your deadly sins in the Seven Deadly Sins Short Fiction Award 2012. Stringybark Stories is delighted to invite all writers to enter their best work in this entertaining competition The maximum word length of your story is 1500 words and it must relate to one of the sins. There is over A$600 in prizes available, cash, plus publication for place-getters and highly commended stories. There is an entry fee of $9.95 (discounts for multiple entries) Closing date 10 June 2012. International entries warmly invited.

100 Words or Fewer Writing Contest, Number Ten--Fiction
We are excited about our Contest Ten! For you writers who lick your lips at prompts, here are four, custom made for you: Categories are "The Encounter," "Locked Up," "The Weary Enforcer," and "He Always Did the Dishes."
We seek original, complete and riveting fiction stories of not more than 100 words.
A title for each story is required. Genre may be whimsy, allegory, mystery, romance, fable, humor, love, fantasy, even horror. The writing of such is not easy; nevertheless, we often see characters, plots and endings that match the work of great novelists!
PRIZES are four at $250 (US)--one for each category. Bonuses are a free checkmark evaluation with three entries, and a free critique with four entries.
Fees: $15.00 (US) per entry, plus $10.00 for a checkmark evaluation, plus $40.00 for a critique, or $60 for entry, checkmark evaluation, and critique--(a critique may be a page and a half long). The Seán Ó Faoláin International Short Story Competition Open to writers of the short story in English, of any nationality. First Prize: €2,000 (*approx $2,525.64 AUD), publication in the literary journal Southword, AND a week-long residency at Anam Cara Writer's and Artist's Retreat. Second Prize: €500 and publication in Southword. Four other shortlisted entries will be selected for publication in Southword and receive a publication fee of €120. |

Eco Arts Awards
In our Literature category we accept poetry, short stories, novellas, essays and well developed blog posts of no more than 5,000 words in length. Our professional jurors select the winner based primariy on the authors inspired and orignial voice as it pertains to the ecology theme. We pay $1,000 USD to the first place winner. |
