Yarram Community Learning Centre - 6th Annual Writing Competition
Short stories, 1500-3000 words. Poetry, (Rhyming or free verse), 8-48 lines. Both open themes. Short stories 1st prize $200, 2nd prize $100. Poetry 1st prize $100, second prize $50. Closing date for entries: 25th July 2008. Entry fees, $5 per short story, $3 per poem.
Certificates awarded to Highly Commended and Commended.

THE TEXT YOUNG ADULT PRIZE
THE TEXT YOUNG ADULT PRIZE aims to discover more wonderful new books for Young Adult readers, by Australian and New Zealand writers.

Both published and unpublished writers are eligible to enter the prize with works of fiction or non-fiction. Submissions must be received by 31 July 2008. Judged by a panel of editors from Text Publishing, the winning book will be announced on the evening of Saturday 30 August, at the Melbourne Writers’ Festival.

The winner will receive a publishing contract with Text and a $10,000 advance against royalties.

2008 Boroondara Literary Awards
The 2008 Boroondara Literary Awards are now open for entries. A prize pool of almost $3,000 is available in the Open Short Story section, a national competition inviting literary works between 1500-3000 words from writers across the country, with a special prize up for grabs for Boroondara residents. The awards are judged by successful industry professionals who are widely recognised for their work in the literary field.

For humorous short stories (any theme) up to 2500 words. Cash prizes for first, second and third place. Highly commended and commended certificates will be awarded too. You can enter as many times as you like. Each story must be written in English and be your own original work.

Each prize will consist of:
1. $5,000 cash.
2. Extensive script development workshops with leading Australian and international practitioners.
3. A presentation of extracts from the winning works to industry professionals and producers.
4. Where possible, professional production of scripts.
