The 2012 Henry Kendall Poetry Award
The Central Coast Poets Inc announces the launch of the 2012 Henry Kendall Poetry Award. This biennial competition provides cash prizes of $500; $200 and $100 for winning poems but also selection for the anthology which has become a much anticipated publication. This competition attracts entries from established poets as well as beginners and this year will be judged by David Musgrave. |

We are excited about our Contest Nine! To challenge the ho hum of our recent "Open," we have two topics for you: " Uncommon Character" or " Eating." Awards are $400 (US) for each First Prize and $50 for each runner-up. Fees: $15.00 per entry, plus $10.00 for a checkmark evaluation, plus $35.00 for a critique that may be a page and a half long. (Please see examples of critiques on the website, and also our "Thank you" letters for these.) Bonuses are a free checkmark evaluation with three entries, and a free critique with four entries. Twisted Stringybark Short Story Award 2012
Nothing entertains a reader more than a good short story with a nifty twist at the end. Stringybark Stories is delighted to invite all writers to enter their best work in the Twisted Stringybark Short Story Award 2012. The maximum word length of your story is 1500 words; it must have some link to Australia (no matter how tenuous); and it must have a twist in the tail! There is over A$500 in prizes available, cash, plus publication for place-getters and highly commended stories. |

Stories Space “New Beginnings” writing competition
Imagine moving to a new city, changing careers or welcoming a long-awaited baby into the world. Remember the freedom of owning your first car, the excitement of a new relationship or making the decision to start over. Stories can cover any of the categories, from Action/Adventure to Young Adult, and must be based on the “New Beginnings” theme.
As an additional challenge stories must also contain one (or both) of the following items:
A family heirloom and/or a set of keys.
Stories, poems and songs are all eligible to enter and you can submit as many entries as you like.

8th KATHLEEN JULIA BATES MEMORIAL WRITING FOR CHILDREN COMPETITION
Open only to Australian writers (published and unpublished), this competition is for the first chapter (to 2,000 words) of a chapter book suitable for readers up to the age of 10 years. Subject matter is open. The manuscript should include a title page with the story title, word count and writer’s name and full contact details, including email address. No CVs, please. No limit on number of entries.
The first prize is $150; the two runners-up will each receive $50. All entrants will receive results, provided they send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with entry/ies. Competition closes on 30 March, 2012.

2012 Bristol Short Story Prize
2012 Bristol Short Story Prize is open to all writers, UK and non-UK based, over 16 years of age.
Stories can be on any theme or subject and
entry can be made online via the website or by
post. Entries must be previously unpublished
with a maximum length of 3,000 words (There is no minimum). The
entry fee is £7 (about 11 Aus Dollars) per story.
Prizes:
1st £1000 ( about 1500 Aus Dollars) plus £150 Waterstone’s gift card
2nd £700 ( about 1050 Aus Dollars) plus £100 Waterstone’s gift card
3rd £400 ( about 600 Aus Dollars) plus £100 Waterstone’s gift card
17 further prizes of £100 ( about 150 Aus Dollars) will be presented to the writers
whose stories appear on the shortlist. All 20 shortlisted
writers will have their stories published in the Bristol Short
Story Prize Anthology Volume 5. The winning story will, also, be published

The Bridport Prize
The Bridport Prize is an annual international creative writing competition for poetry, short stories and flash fiction. The closing date for entries which may either be sent online or by post is 31st May. The Bridport Prize is one of the top prizes of its kind in terms of both prestige and prize money. It has been the first step in the careers of many established poets and novelists. The prize money now totals £15325. |
