AFL Grand Final Day

The AFL Grand Final
The AFL Grand Final is traditionally held on the last Saturday in September at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The AFL Grand Final attracts a large audience year after year and is broadcast all over the world. In 2007 there were 97,302 footy fans attending the AFL Grand Final!

On the Friday before the AFL Grand Final a parade is held in Melbourne. The Parade is made up of players from the teams competing at the Grand Final and crowds line the streets to support and cheer on their team.

Grand Final parties and bbq's are held throughout homes and pubs in all states of Australia. People gather around and enjoy watching their team. For many supporters the AFL Grand Final brings out strong emotions as they cheer their team on.

Footy Wine Online

"If it's not a Sherrin...
it's just not football! Synonymous with Aussie Rules, the Sherrin footy has a long tradition within Australian sport. Made by Spalding to official specifications for use by all leagues, the genuine leather Kangaroo Brand Sherrin has been the chosen ball of the AFL since 1897. The ideal - and only - first footy for kids.

Grand Final Parties and BBQ's

Food Ideas for Grand Final Day Parties
For something a bit different try serving all your favorite party food for your guests arranged on platters and keep it coming throughout the game. Serve the following heated up with bowls of tomato sauce:
Party Pies and Sausage Rolls
Cocktail Frankfurts (or Hot Dogs cut up)
Chicken Nuggets
Quiche's
Mini Dim Sims
and at half time treat everyone to some Scones and Jam and Cream!

The BBQ
Steak, Sausages, jacket potatoes and Salads.

Prawns on the Barbie
Prawns are delicious cooked on the barbecue - either whole in their shells or shelled and threaded onto skewers like in the picture below. Lemon juice and olive oil drizzled over them, then served with mayonnaise is yummy. For more recipes and information on Prawns see:
